Letter to Parents from TSS re: government shutdown

Dear parents and guardians,

We are writing you as a parent or guardian of a child who will be joining us at Teton Science Schools during the month of October. We are thrilled to have the chance to work with your child to provide an inspiring and meaningful education experience in Jackson Hole.

Teton Science Schools would like to update you on the impact the government shutdown is having on our operations at this time. Teton Science Schools Field Education will continue with the same high quality programming. Impacts to our organization are mostly logistical and will not change the nature of the TSS experience. There are a few impacts to programming of note.

National Park trails and pull outs are closed to all visitors nationwide. All Field Education programs will continue to operate on TSS lands and other partner lands. We will go to different locations outside of the National Parks, but content and experiences will remain the same. Our first visiting group during the shutdown has had an equally amazing experience as in years’ past. Pictures of their experience are imbedded in this letter.

Due to the location of our Kelly Campus in Grand Teton National Park, it is being closed to all short-term programming. These constraints are being applied nationwide in National Parks. Arrangements have been made for Field Education programs scheduled at the Kelly Campus to move to the Jackson Campus if the shutdown continues.

The Jackson Campus is located on land owned by TSS in a secluded valley just south of Grand Teton National Park and west of the town of Jackson. This campus, built 8 years ago, is one of two hubs of our residential Field Education programing at TSS. The programming at all TSS locations is the same and the students will only be eating and sleeping in a different location.
We look forward to having your child visit us and experience the inspiring learning that occurs at Teton Science Schools.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact us. Sincerely
Joe Petrick Josh Kleyman
